The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System can give schools time to prepare students and staff before an earthquake strikes. A free webinar April 24 will give school leaders information as well as talk about other earthquake preparedness resources.
The ShakeAlert public service operated by the U.S. Geological Survey with education and research partners uses a seismic monitoring network in California, Oregon and Washington to detect tremors and send out warnings. The technology can integrate with school communication systems to give automatic alerts.
