A new federal and state program will provide families with $120 in food benefits this summer for each eligible school-aged child.
The Oregon Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program aims to help fill the gap when students don’t have access to healthy school meals during the summer. Oregon will offer $35 million to about 294,000 children, according to an Oregon Department of Education news release.
Most students who attend schools that are part of federal free meal programs or who live in households receiving other federal assistance are eligible and are automatically enrolled. Families can check their eligibility or apply for Summer EBT on the website. Benefits are available regardless of immigration status.
