Every two years, hundreds of individuals are elected to positions on the governing boards of Oregon school districts, education service districts and community colleges. With the crop of new faces comes new opportunities, but it also signals a rite of passage for dozens of local school board members who have volunteered for years – in some cases for decades.
OSBA established the Milestone Awards this year to recognize outgoing board members who have invested at least 10 years of service to Oregon students. The awards are arranged by decades of service:
- Praiseworthy (10 years)
- Distinguished (20 years)
- Outstanding (30 years)
- Lifetime Achievement (40 years or more)
