Nov. 7-9, 2024 | Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront

This year’s theme is “All in for Students”

The OSBA Annual Convention is Oregon’s premier continuing education program — delivering practical solutions to help school boards and their superintendents improve student learning and achievement. Whether you are a veteran board member, a superintendent, a board support professional or a first-time attendee, you’ll leave the conference with practical ideas and a renewed commitment to help your board accomplish the critical work ahead. The convention features some of the “best practices” from school boards across the state. (You will find additional event information at the bottom of the page.)

Friday Keynote Speaker

Brandon P. Fleming is a renowned speaker, nationally acclaimed educator and author of “MISEDUCATED: A Memoir.” An at-risk youth and college dropout turned award-winning educator, Fleming is founder and CEO of the Veritas School of Social Sciences in Atlanta, Georgia. Fleming’s personal story and innovative work represent the transformative power of equity to close performance gaps.

In 2017, Fleming was recruited to become Harvard University’s assistant debate coach at the age of 26. He started the Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project, which was designed to increase Black enrollment at Harvard’s residential debate program. He faced the challenge of taking Black youth from mostly under-resourced schools in Atlanta, who had never been exposed to the rigors of academic debate, and preparing them in just one year to compete against some of the most elite debaters from across the globe.

Fleming created a curriculum designed to build intellectual capacity, accelerate learning and ultimately level the playing field for Black students. For six consecutive years, every cohort trained by Fleming won the international competition. As a noted speaker, Fleming has shared his insights with K-12 educators, colleges and universities, corporations and the United Nations.

Saturday Keynote Speaker

Eric Sheninger works with schools throughout the world, helping educators meet and exceed their potential to improve outcomes for learners. He is the founder and CEO of Aspire Change EDU, a collaborative consultancy designed to provide personalized support to all educational systems.

Sheninger began his education career as a science teacher before moving into administration for the New Milford (N.J.) School District. Under his award-winning leadership, New Milford High School became a globally recognized model for innovative practices. Sheninger oversaw the successful implementation of several sustainable change initiatives that radically transformed the learning culture at his school while increasing achievement.

Sheninger’s main focus is using research and evidence-based practices to empower learners and educators. Through his work with thousands of schools, Sheninger has emerged as an innovative leader, best-selling author and sought-after speaker. His honors include CDE Top 30 award recipient, Bammy Award winner, NASSP Digital Principal Award winner, PDK Emerging Leader Award recipient, winner of Learning Forward’s Excellence in Professional Practice Award, Google Certified Innovator, Adobe Education Leader, and ASCD 2011 Conference Scholar. He also maintains the award-winning blog A Principal’s Reflections.
