The U.S. Education Department is offering a free webinar Thursday, Aug. 1, on the new Title IX rules it will be beginning to enforce. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine E. Lhamon will participate in the 30-minute webinar starting at 8:15 a.m. Pacific time.

Attendees can submit questions ahead of time. The webinar will touch on key provisions of the new regulations that create a more uniform grievance process and add protections for LGBTQ+ students and staff. It will also connect school leaders with resources to guide implementation and highlight upcoming training and technical assistance opportunities.

Oregon is not one of the 26 states that have opposed or delayed the new rules.

The Education Department through its Student Privacy Policy Office is holding additional webinars for school leaders. It will hold a one-hour webinar Wednesday, July 31, to give teachers, administrators and school staff tips on recognizing cyber threats and protecting the information of students and staff.

The office will also hold a three-day webinar series in August with more information on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act:
