The selection of the board chair is made no later than the next regular meeting following July 1 each year. (Board Policy BC/BCA)

A commission issue for board members is how to select the chair. Often the highest vote getter or the senior member of the board is chosen as chair. In some districts, the chair is chosen for one year, and chairmanship rotates among board members.

OSBA encourages boards to closely examine individual board members’ skills and abilities when selecting a chair because the chair has a unique role. The board member with the strongest leadership skills is often the most appropriate choice.
