Commercialism and Fundraising in Bend-LaPine Public Schools (260k This document is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Click here for help.)

Commercialism in schools is a growing concern for school boards nationwide. OSBA’s November Salute goes to the Bend-La Pine School Board for tackling the topic head-on.

They asked district staff to conduct a comprehensive study of commercialism in schools. Staff studied research, gathered policies used by other districts and surveyed administrators, students, parents and the business community to learn if they think the level of fundraising is excessive.

The outcome? They developed a new vending procedure and changed the district’s rules and board goals to ensure fair treatment of students and families as pressures increase to generate more funds for school programs.
